I have a master's degree in social work from Portland State University and have worked in the behavioral healthcare field since 2008. I have experience in residential, outpatient, and acute hospital settings (both medical and psychiatric). However, I have found my passion in the deeper relational work of talk therapy. I love what I do and I seek consultation and practice self-care to ensure I can continue doing this work competently and for many years to come.
I identify as a straight, white, cisgender woman. I am open to people of all colors and identities and I deeply value diversity. I acknowledge the harmful effects of white supremacy and do my part to challenge inequality. I am a dual Norwegian/American citizen and am also very familiar with Mexican culture. While I do speak Spanish, I am not yet proficient enough to do therapy in Spanish.
I moved to Oregon at 8 months old (I consider myself a native Oregonian). I've lived in both small, rural towns and the city of Portland. My hobbies include running, reading, dancing, camping, weightlifting, and travel.
A note about my own weight loss
I have personal experience with losing weight and lost over 75lbs after being obese since childhood (side note: I lost most of that weight without exercise). I have maintained that loss for several years and have committed to lifestyle changes that I know will be lasting and support my own health and fitness goals. I understand the deep struggle of having a challenging relationship with food. After all, we need to eat to survive! I believe that the combination of my professional training and my personal experience makes me the ideal person to help you reach your own weight management goals.
